Quiet September Day

The summer heat is giving us one last blast today and it is very warm outside. Inside, however we are cool and sassy! Barbara is working on a new flannel quilt out of blue florals from Henry Glass. It is looking good, she should have the last border on today and then onto the long-arm. I hope to take it with me to the Conejo Valley Quilt Show on Oct 2 and 3.

Yesterday, Beach Cities Quilt Guild Philanthropy and the Bobbin Babes Friendship Group combined to work on making quilt kits to give to guild members at the general meeting in October. They had so much fabric out and quilts all over the walls, it looked like a beautiful fabric explosion in the classroom.

We will be starting our new UFO Club next Satuday here at the store. Lots of customers have expressed interest in joining, so we should have a good turn-out. Everyone must bring 10 unfinished quilt projects to join, we will list them on a sheet for each person. Then I will pick a number and we will all try to complete the project for that number before the meeting next month. Of course, those who complete their projects will be rewarded!

My friendship group, Material Girls, decided that a project/kit that has not been started does not qualify for UFO status. Only those projects that we have opened and begun cutting or something makes a true UFO. This new guideline really helped me feel better about my stash :).

Here is a picture of the sunset about a week ago in San Clemente off of the pier. Beautiful and so inspiring.

Back In Circulation!

Hi Everyone,

After a very busy summer and having lost my blogging pal, Debbie, I am back on and making a commitment to blog at least 4 to 5 times a week. To my faithful few, I really appologize and hope you will jump back on board with me!

We are enjoying the holiday fabrics that have come in for fall and Christmas. We have several great project models up in the store. One of my favorites, A Winter Dance is a pattern and fabric design by Robyn Pandolph for RJR fabrics.

I used the fusible machine-applique technique, but it would look wonderful as a needle-turn applique also.

We have also updated our website to include some on-line shopping. We have all of our classes available on-line and we have all of Nancy Ota's patterns and some great quilt kits on. I will try to add merchandise frequently to the shopping site.

I hope you have all had a relaxing and fun summer. I know I am ready for cooler weather and holdiay quilts!

Hi All,

I (Martha) am posting my first blog this afternoon as Dependable Debbie is out of town at her daugther's college graduation. This is kind of fun, so maybe I'll blog more often!

Debbie, Donna, Barbara, Janis who all work at A Time to Sew and I went on a little shop hop last week down to San Diego. Here are a few pics - we had a fun day. It is always so nice for me to get away from the shop for a day and to see what beautiful, creative quilt shops there are in Southern California.

I want to take a North Orange County shop hop asap. I especially want to see the new shop in Orange just opened by Lisa and Pebble called the Orange Quilt Bee. This new store should help serve the customers from Leah's Fabric Gallery which closed in December when Jack and Leah Pariser retired. Ron and I want to wish them the best of luck with their new venture.

At the store, we had a nice Mother's Day Tea for our customers. We served tea and cookies of course, and Lindy Martinez was here with her massage chair to give Free neck and shoulder massages. That was a big hit! We also had great discounts on merchandise and just generally had a lovely day. We will definitely do it again next year.

Last weekend, Ron and I were vendors at the San Fernando Valley Quilt Guild show. The show was held at the California State University campus at Northridge and the facilities were lovely.

We have exciting news - our web site is internet sales ready! Starting today, local customers can sign up and pay for classes on-line. In the next day or so we will be putting merchandise on the site for sale also, so keep watching!

See you soon,

Martha

Just arrived ...

Ladybug Flannels

Can you believe it's May already? We've had several customers come in that are making graduation quilts for gifts. T-shirt quilts or photo quilts seem to be popular right now.

What a busy week we've had cutting and packaging kits for Saturday Sampler! We're expecting a busy weekend. The fabric will be out to purchase as well as the Finishing Kits. Martha and Ron will be glad to get part of their office back!

Did you see the cute flannels in the above photo? The picture doesn't do them justice. They really are adorable. They would make a darling quilt and/or pajamas! Be sure to check them out when you come in next time.

Martha has a treat for Moms on Saturday, May 9. Come into the store to enjoy a complimentary chair massage along with tea and cookies. What better place to be than with your quilting friends at A Time to Sew!

Our first blog....

Welcome to A Time to Sew
We are so excited to enter the world of "blogging!" Martha and Debbie are going to try to do updates a couple of times a week. We'll keep you up to date with what's going on in the store, including news, classes, new items and maybe a quilting tip or two! Look for staff profiles in the near future!

The staff has been busy putting kits and samples together for upcoming quilt shows and Quilter's Run. We'll be at the SFV Quilt Guild Show at CSU-Northridge May 16 - 17.

If you are one of our Saturday Sampler members, we'll see you next Saturday, May 2, for Block 3. We're working on the finishing kits and will try to have them available then too. If you want to buy additional yardage for borders, etc., we'll have it behind the counter reserved for Saturday Sampler members only for the month of May. In June the fabric will be out on the floor for all customers.

As many of you know, our classroom is available for groups and friends to use. We love having quilters in the store. Come spend a morning or afternoon with us. Call the store for available times (949) 282-0084. There's no charge for using the classroom.

Dear Customers,
Well, we are settled in our new store location, and looking forward to an exciting summer. Thank you again to all who helped us move, it was so much fun to work with you and what a big difference you made! Big thanks go to the husbands who helped Ron out with the heavy work and who recreated our displays throughout the store. This summer is packed with opportunities for quilters and sewers. Come in and see! Check out our website!
